Hi everyone, happy Friday! It’s the weekend and that is exactly what I want to talk about—the next 72 hours—Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I have a question for you: How do you feel on Monday morning when the alarm goes off, you get up and are starting your next week? Do you feel accomplished and energized and ready to go for the week ahead? Or........ Do you feel tired and drained and full of negative thoughts? I’m tired. It’s Monday. I don’t want to go back to work. Today is going to suck. I wish it was the weekend still. Do you know there is a correlation in how you treat and take care of yourself for the next 72 hours with how you feel on Monday morning?
Do you know the last 72 hours dictates how you feel right now?
The last 72 hours has set you up for your emotional state, mental clarity and physical vibrancy of today.
This is important to know going into the weekend!
The next 72 hours is going to determine how you physically and mentally feel on Monday morning.
Here are 5 things that can help your Monday mornings be amazing:
1. Create a Monday to do list Friday before leaving work.
On Friday afternoon Before you leave to go home for the day, take the last few minutes and Jot down a list of loose ends and then prioritize the things that need to be done so when you get back to work on Monday, you can just dive in.
Also, leave yourself an inspirational note on your desk to greet you when arrive at the beginning of the week…..Good morning Sunshine!......Today is going to be a great day!.....You are a rock star!!! Sound cheesy? Just try it once, I guarantee it will put a smile on your face.
2. 7+ hours of sleep each weekend night
Most adults need 7-9 hours of sleep a night. If you are staying up late, then schedule a nap during the day or at least give yourself some down time. Lack of sleep can cause weight gain and weight loss plateaus. While you sleep your body “washes” your brain and repairs normal body wear and tear first and second the longer you sleep, your body will jump into fat burning mode. Going into any work day with low energy will have a negative impact, but more so on Monday’s because it could potentially set a negative tone for the rest of the week. Going into Mondays with as much energy as possible, sets a productive tone not only for Monday but also for the rest of the week.
3. Disconnect
It’s important to step away from the screen and disconnect from “work mode”. Sure, you physically leave the office every Friday but ask yourself if you’re actually ever leaving—or, are you just changing location? If you find yourself constantly reading and responding to work emails during off hours, you’re never really giving your brain the break it deserves. This is especially important for people with home offices. Close the door to your office and disconnect. Reserve your weekend as time when you disengage from all of those work tasks and stresses. Put down your phone, walk away from your computer, and take the time you need to unwind—you’ve earned it!
4. Do Something You Enjoy
Life can get crazy. So crazy that many of us no longer make time for hobbies, passions, and the things we enjoy. But, these activities are important for maintaining a positive and healthy work/life balance. Maybe you’d like to meet up with friends for a fun night out. Perhaps you want to relax and read a book. Or, maybe you’re eager to take your dog for a long walk. Whatever your interests are, making the time to actually pursue them is crucial. Doing this will allow you to enjoy your weekend more—rather than having it feel like just an extension of your work week. So, you’ll be able to return to the office feeling ready to conquer your Monday to-do list.
5. Reflect on your Week
Here are some questions to answer to help you intentionally think about the week:
What went well this week?
What did not go so well?
Did you live your life aligned with your priorities and vision? What can you do better next week?
What did you truly enjoy?
What are you grateful for?
Monday morning can have a huge impact on your attitude and approach to the rest of the work week. So you want to definitely enter the office with a bit of spring in your step and a refreshed mind and body. This simply will not happen if you don’t pay attention to how you are spending your time on the weekends. Work these tips into your weekend routine and you will be recharged and ready to tackle Monday morning. One last question......How do you want to show up for yourself this weekend?
Hugs,
Coach Kammy
